What decides the petrol price in Pakistan
- International oil prices (Platts) for petrol and diesel cargoes.
- The dollar rate – oil is imported in dollars, so a weaker rupee raises prices. See the dollar rate today.
- Petroleum levy and climate support levy set by the government.
- Margins for oil marketing companies and petrol pump dealers, plus inland freight.
OGRA works out the price from these and the Petroleum Division / Finance Division notify it. Prices take effect from midnight on the date notified.
Prices are for information; the price at the pump is final. Last updated from the notification of 27 October 2026.
Frequently asked questions
What is the petrol price in Pakistan today?
Petrol (motor spirit) is Rs 379.25 per litre and high-speed diesel is Rs 395.82 per litre, effective 27 October 2026, according to the latest Petroleum Division notification.
How often do petrol prices change in Pakistan?
For years prices were revised on the 1st and 16th of each month. In 2026 the government has been revising them more often – sometimes every few days – based on international oil prices, the exchange rate and taxes. We update this page after each notification.
How much tax is included in the petrol price?
A large part of the price is taxes and levies – over Rs 100 per litre on petrol and diesel in October 2026, mainly the petroleum levy and climate support levy – plus customs duty, freight and the margins of oil companies and dealers.
Is the petrol price the same in every city?
Yes. Under the Inland Freight Equalisation Margin (IFEM), the notified price is the same at every pump in Pakistan, so Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad and Peshawar pay the same per litre.
