Buying and selling gold in Karachi
Jewellers in Karachi quote the same base rate as the rest of Pakistan – the main market is the Sarafa Bazaar off M.A. Jinnah Road, where the Karachi Sarafa association sets the rate the rest of Pakistan follows. What changes from shop to shop is the making charge on jewellery and the deduction when you sell. Ask for the rate per tola for the exact karat, the weight on a calibrated scale and a written receipt showing purity.
How today's gold rate is worked out
Gold is priced internationally in US dollars per troy ounce (31.1 g). We convert that price – currently $4,059.90 – into rupees at today's dollar rate (Rs 276.81), then into tola and grams. Lower purities are priced in proportion: 22K = 22/24 of the 24K rate, 21K = 21/24 and 18K = 18/24.
The Karachi Sarafa market usually trades within about 0.5% of this figure, so it is a reliable guide before you buy or sell. Check the jeweller's quoted rate, making charges and purity hallmark before paying.

Frequently asked questions
What is the gold rate in Karachi today?
24K gold in Karachi is priced at the national rate shown above per tola, 10 gram and gram. The page refreshes every hour.
How much is 1 tola in grams?
1 tola = 11.664 grams. A tola has 12 masha and each masha has 8 ratti, so 1 masha ≈ 0.972 g and 1 ratti ≈ 0.1215 g.
Why is the price at my jeweller different?
Our rate is the bullion value of the gold itself. Jewellers add making charges (often 5–15%), and the Karachi Sarafa association’s daily rate can be slightly above or below the international price because of local demand and import costs. When you sell jewellery, jewellers usually deduct for impurity and alloy.
What is the difference between 24K, 22K and 21K gold?
24K is about 99.9% pure gold, 22K is 91.7% gold and 21K is 87.5% gold; the rest is copper or silver for strength. Most Pakistani jewellery is 21K or 22K, so its value per tola is 87.5% or 91.7% of the 24K rate.
Is the gold rate the same in Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad?
Yes – the base rate is the same across Pakistan. Karachi’s Sarafa market sets the trend and jewellers in other cities follow it; only making charges and small local premiums differ.
